Men's B-Ball Notches Nice Win vs Air Force

We won 63-52 and it was the most entertaining game I have ever seen at the Convo. These are the type of wins that gain you fans.

NIU and AF switched leads early on in the game, but then after that it was mostly tied or we were ahead by a few points.

F Sean Logan was Mr. Do-It-All for the Huskies finishing with 8 pts, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, a steal and 3 blocks.

The shooting of our guards was really good. Jeremy Landers had 14 pts, while Jarvis Nichols coming off the bench had 18, while going 10-10 from the free throw line. Nichols also had 4 steals and 4 assists.

You have to give it up to our bench players who outscored AF 34-7. F Sean Smith really came in to his own, scoring a season high 10 pts on 5-8 shooting. He has the prettiest shot on the team. Here's what Patton has to say about him (NStar):

“Sean Smith came in and scored some for us, which we expect him to do,” said Patton. Patton also added that Smith has to continue to get better for the team as a whole to keep improving.

I was surprised by our ability to shoot the 3-ball in this game. Logan, Nichols and Landers all were 2-3 from behind the arc.

Landers needs to work a little more on his FT shooting, as he was only 4-10 from the charity stripe. We did cause a season-high 22 turnovers, but we turned the ball over 20 times too, which is something we need to improve on.

F/C Egan Grafel looked lackadaisical out there and finished with a disappointing 4 pts and 5 rebounds in 29 min of playing time. F/C Mike Hart provided a boost later in the game and he got 3 rebounds and went 4-6 from the line in only 8 minutes of playing time to seal the victory.

Our defense and more specifically our perimeter D has been spectacular these past 2 games. We held AF to only 37% (17-46) shooting and a measly 25% (4-16) from the arc, which was key in the victory.

The weather was horrible again, but attendance was still pretty good at 1,169. Nice student section. My friend got his cowbell taken away though. The shirts the CAB were giving away were said something like "The Red Sea", which was weird because that's what fans of Nebraska are called. It was just really weird, because we have "The Red Riot" student section as well. I didn't get it.

And coming in the student entrance, it took a while for them to get the tix from somewhere. Why would I have to wait? This makes no sense either. And I didn't even get a shirt, because they didn't even have them out yet when I got there. Oh well.

Next game:

Notre Dame on Saturday @ South Bend (It's gut-check time)
